The Real Facts About Lab Grown Diamond and Engagement Rings

Posted on April 16, 2022May 1, 2022 By admin

What are Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings?

Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings are simply engagement rings created with Lab-Grown Diamonds. These man-made diamonds are specially engineered in a highly controlled lab environment and are used in engagement rings, diamond wedding bands, and other lab diamond created jewelry. Many advanced technological tools and processes are used to duplicate the conditions under which these diamonds naturally develop.

While natural diamonds form in nature in the mantle, beneath the Earth’s crust, lab diamonds or lab-grown diamonds are formed in a lab using the same method, however, controlled, thus, they reveal the same visual and chemical properties. The process of growing these diamonds is extremely particular, and it is this precision that ensures that lab-grown diamonds have the same glisten, sparkle, and luxuriousness as natural diamonds.

They can be found in lab-grown diamond engagement rings or eternity rings.

Are Lab Grown Diamonds Real?

When it comes to lab-created diamonds, the first thing that comes to mind is their authenticity.  First, it is essential to know that lab-grown diamonds are not fake diamonds, nor are they cubic zirconia, synthetic, or moissanite. These are 100% real diamonds made in a lab. Whether they’re labeled man-made or lab-made, the best thing is that lab-grown diamond engagement rings are indeed made with completely genuine diamonds.

Lab-Grown Diamonds have the same characteristics and luster as natural diamonds. Moreover, the sparkle and the visibility are the same; the only difference is their origin.

How Lab Created Diamonds are Grown in the Laboratory?

Technically, both natural and lab diamonds are formed from carbon atoms that are exposed to exceptionally high warmth levels. Even though numerous processes can take place to generate a lab-grown diamond engagement ring. There are now two primary methods for producing high-quality lab-grown diamonds:

  • High-Pressure High Temperature (HPHT)
  • CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition)

The HPHT method, which stands for high pressure and high temperature, is the original method for creating lab-grown diamonds. It recreates the normal natural growing environment that is found deep in the earth. This process has been improved, and in the early 50s, it started producing quality HPHT gem-grade diamonds. Additionally, the HPHT process is also used to enhance the color of lab-grown diamonds allowing them to be colorless, pink, green, blue, or yellow, among other colors.

The process starts with exactly what mined diamonds are made up of: a small diamond seed, highly refined graphite carbon, and a catalyst consisting of a mixture of metals and powders. This is what earth mined diamonds are made of. The seed is exposed to extreme heat and pressure and is then cooled, just like it is in nature.

The problem though was this method limited the size of a lab-grown diamond. This is where Chemical Vapor Deposition found its way into the industry. It is a new technology and now, the preferred process uses a chamber and a carbon-rich gas blend allowing the pure carbon to connect itself to the diamond seed. The carbon then forms atomic bonds with the seed diamond, and after that…voila…the perfect lab diamond is made just like a natural one and in any size.

Benefits of Choosing a Lab Grown Diamond for Engagement Ring

Lab Grown diamonds are perfect for your dream engagement ring. There are a few benefits of choosing a lab diamond over a natural diamond.

Cost plays a significant role when selecting a diamond for your lab diamond engagement ring. Lab Grown Diamonds are a fraction of the price of natural diamonds. As a result, these diamonds permit more people to embrace a piece of luxury.

When choosing a lab diamond over a natural diamond, allows consumers to indulge in high-quality, well-crafted designer settings, that they couldn’t consider before due to the price. This is because most of the budget has been consumed on buying the high cost of a natural diamond or better defined, mined diamond.

Additionally, lab-grown diamonds are eco-friendly with brighter quality and higher purity. These have greater affordability as compared to mined diamonds, and they have supreme ethical factors over natural diamonds. With lab-grown, you always know that the origin was ethical.

Consequently, investing in a lab-grown diamond is the best decision for your special engagement ring. Purchasing a respectably sized natural diamond stone often requires a couple to compromise on the quality of the diamond or the ring’s design. However, with lab-grown diamonds, you get a chance to buy a larger size and even a custom setting.

All in all, lab-grown diamonds are sustainable and more ecologically sound. Hence, lab-created diamonds are the best choice when you desire to own something lavish, which is budget-friendly and sustainable.
